10 Reasons to Date a Gamer

Posted By: Alex - April 13, 2022

10 Reasons to Date a Gamer

There are many benefits to dating a gamer, be you a gamer yourself, or an open minded non-gamer who is looking to support their partner or perhaps even become a gamer. It is also not uncommon for couples with a gamer in the mix to convert the other and introduce them to what it’s like to date a gamer.

We reached out and asked some of our successful couples to give a list of reasons why it is good to date a gamer. Here is why you should consider dating a gamer.

1. Gamers are good in a long distance relationship.

When it comes to LDR, gamers are already tuned into long distance communication, friendships, and online organisation. They are used to chatting online, can connect easily, and they may introduce new apps to you to make it all easier. If you are lucky, you could go on the fabled Discord date. A date based around chatting in video chat, playing games together and talking long into the night all from the comfort of your own home. Pyjamas optional ;)

gaming and relationships are good with LDR

2. Gamers know the value of alone time.

At the start, maybe your relationship will be in the honeymoon phase, and you won’t ever have enough of one another, but soon enough you’ll long for a bit of alone time. Gamers know the value of this time, to reflect, relax and recharge. You won’t have any fears, panic or drama and if you have a hobby that takes time, they’ll understand. Gamers get it.

3. You don’t need to worry about your own hobbies.

You’ll never have to hide your weird hobbies from them. You don't need to pretend to be ‘normal’. Board Games, trading card games, axe throwing, cosplay, live action role-play, Dungeons and Dragons, the list goes on...

Gamers would more than likely want to try out the unusual hobbies, or just give you that time to do them at your leisure. Gamers all too well have experienced negative reactions to their valued interest and wouldn’t want to put it on anyone else.

4. Halloween, Cosplay, and fancy dress is super easy.

Oh, the dream of many gamers. Couples dressing up as matching outfits, be it from the favourite game or accompanying lore. Halloween, fancy dress and even cosplay are appealing options to the intrepid gamer. Blizzard host massively popular cosplay events at Blizzcon. Millions tuning in to check out the latest Barbarian, Kerrigan or Guldan. You’ll easily find time to be kitted up in some quality gear.

5. Date nights are super easy to plan!

A bit of a tongue in cheek bonus, but it’s partially built in truth. Arranging an evening of gaming together, sitting on the sofa, or shacked up next to one another on the PCs. Exploring an MMO, dominating lanes in a MOBA, or playing a co-op game together. A date night gaming together will evolve into super specific and fun activities. Snacks, Games, and Cuddles. Bliss.

plan your date night easily

6. Really easy to buy gifts for!

Seriously, find out their favourite game, and grab something themed around it. Or you could go for the tried and tested way of buying a game or DLC. One of our successful couples shared how during a particularly awful day at work, he brought his gamer girlfriend a steam game from her wishlist and she was surprised at work.

On the flip side, gamers are also really thoughtful at buying gifts. You’ll see what we mean ;)

7. You’ll never be bored around a Gamer.

Gamers have a broad imagination, granting an almost secret power to boost your relationship. You’ll have many unique and memorable moments with your gamer partner, as they will always have things to do and offer.

One couple shared that since they moved in together they then had 2 lots PS5, 3 Nintendo Switches, 4 PCs and 3 sets of Oculus VR Headsets and had both pre-ordered the Steam Deck. Boredom was nowhere near their horizon.

date a gamer and never be bored

8. Gamers are troubleshooters.

Gamers know how to Google, they know how to self fix their hardware and software, they know how to self teach and troubleshoot everything. They know their machines. You can bet this will expand from gaming guides, installation guides and move into making sure they can be a great partner. You’ll have the best hardware, best routers, fastest internet and best gear without having to justify it to an unwitting partner. Plus you won’t have any broken devices, that's for sure!

9. Gamers tend to be more intelligent than average

It’s not just us saying this, multiple studies have shown that people who play video games and flex their mind can actually make you smarter. Rey Perez, the Office of Naval Research, found that gamers perform 10 to 20 percent higher in terms of perceptual and cognitive abilities compared to non-gamers. Perez said that video games increase the fluid intelligence of individuals regardless of their age. Further studies have explored gamers, intelligence and social ability and revealed that gamers value friendships and family 20% more than non-gamers. It’s all that gaming, it keeps a mind sharp.

10. Gamers are good with their hands

Come on, we had to throw one more tongue in cheek remark about how dexterous us gamers are ;)

So, stop wondering if a Gamer is right for you and reach out to that potential match!
